Easy ways to eat healthy

Eating right is a big part of staying healthy and keeping in shape. It isn’t always easy to eat right but there are a few ways to make it simple to get the nutrients you need daily.

Stick with fresh fruits and veggies. There are so many options out there so everyone can find a few that they like. Cut up your fruit and veggies in advance that can be stored in the refrigerator. Put them in meal size or snack size amounts so they are easy to grab and prepare.

Get your protein. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. Eggs are a great source of protein and simple to prepare. You can boil half a dozen at a time and keep refrigerated for breakfast, add them to salads, or just snack on them. Also cheese and other dairy products are high in protein. You can buy precut or pre-grated cheese to keep for snacking or to add to meals for a simple way to get your protein. Nuts are a great snack that is high in protein. Be sure to get unsalted nuts to minimize the amount of sodium you take in.

Make sure you are getting enough fiber and whole grains. Eating whole grain breads is probably the easiest way to get your whole wheat and fiber. Make sure that the first ingredient listed on the label says whole grain when buying bread. Oatmeal is full of whole grain and one of the easiest meals that you can prepare. In a ½ cup serving of oatmeal, you will consume 4g of fiber. Whole wheat pasta is also packed with whole wheat. A one cup serving size of whole wheat pasta has an average of 6g of fiber per serving.

Get creative with soup and salad. These are both simple to prepare and packed with nutrients. Use a can of beef broth, chicken broth or vegetable broth and add your favorite veggies, meat, beans, rice or pasta and you have a simple soup that is healthy. Add a salad on the side and you will have all of the nutrients you need for the day.
